In a statement likely to embarrass Congress, Lok Sabha party leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said Kashmir was not an internal affair of India since the UN has been monitoring the situation since 1948 .

Chowdhury made the remarks after the Lok Sabha made the resolution to repeal Jammu and Kashmir's special statute and the state reorganization bill to split Jammu and Kashmir into two territories. The union.

"You (government) say it's an internal matter. But he has been under surveillance since 1948 by the UN. Is it an internal matter? We signed the Shimla agreement and the Lahore declaration. Was it an internal or bilateral affair?

In addition, Chowdhury said that "the entire party of Congress" wanted to know the government's response.

"S Jaishankar told Mike Pompeo a few days ago that Kashmir was a bilateral affair, so do not interfere with that. Can J & K always be an internal affair? We want to know. The whole party in Congress wants to be informed by you, "he said.

Interior Minister Amit Shah said that not only was Jammu and Kashmir an integral part of India, but it also included Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

"Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of the India Union. Kashmir ki seemed mein PoK bhi aata hai ... Jaan de denge iske liye! (PoK is under Kashmir, ready to die), "said Shah.

Sources told CNN-News18 that Congress leader and UPA president Sonia Gandhi was dissatisfied with Chowdhury's remark in Parliament and disapproved of the statement.

Chowdhury's statement risks exacerbating the problems of the Congress on the development of Kashmir with several important leaders, including Janardan Dwivedi, Deepender Hooda and Rae Bareli's member Aditi Singh, supporting the government's decision.

While Mr. Dwivedi said that a "historic error" had been corrected by the government, Mr. Hooda said that repealing the special status "is in the interests of national integrity."

"It's a very old problem. After independence, many freedom fighters had not wanted to keep article 370. I had my political training under the leadership of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, who was against this article. Personally, it's a question of satisfaction. This historical mistake that took place at the time of independence has been corrected today, albeit belatedly, and is welcome, "said Dwivedi.

He said his opinion was personal and not that of his party.

Reacting to development, Hooda said, "I have always maintained that Article 370 should be abolished, it has no place in the 21st century, but the peaceful implementation of this transition in a trusted environment is to the government in place. "

Clarifying the official position of the party 24 hours after the announcement of the bomb of Interior Minister Amit Shah, the head of Congress, Rahul Gandhi, called this initiative "abuse of executive power."

"National integration is not favored by the unilateral separation of J & K, the imprisonment of elected representatives and the violation of our Constitution. This nation is made by its people, not plots of land. This abuse of executive power has serious consequences for our national security, "Gandhi tweeted.
