The terrorist commander of Mumbai and the head of Jamaat-ud-Dawah (JuD), Hafiz Saeed, was arrested on Wednesday by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the Pakistani province of Punjab, authorities said.

Saeed, who has several cases pending against him, was traveling to Gujranwala from Lahore to appear before an anti-terrorist court when the arrest took place, authorities said. It has been moved to an unknown place, they added.

It is believed that the JuD led by Saeed is the main organization of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which is responsible for carrying out the Mumbai attacks in 2008 that killed 166 people.

The United States Department of the Treasury has designated Saeed as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist, and the United States, since 2012, has offered a $ 10 million reward for the information that brings Saeed to justice.

Under pressure from the international community, the Pakistani authorities have initiated investigations into JuD and LeT issues regarding their possession and use of trusts to raise funds for the financing of terrorism.
