YouTuber Grant Thompson dies in a paragliding accident

Jonathan Grant Thompson, 38, was found dead on Monday, said Washington County Sheriff Lieutenant David Crouse. The cause is still under investigation.
The creator of the YouTube Channel "King of Random", whose experiments and practical science advice drew 11 million subscribers, died in a Utah paragliding accident.

Thompson's videos have been viewed more than a billion times.

They range from filling a flask with liquid nitrogen to making a laser blower. Some were practical, for example, how to improve the reception of mobile phones, while others were fanciful, like building a raft from rice cakes.

Thompson hit the headlines last year after complaints about explosions in the backyard of his suburb of Salt Lake City led to criminal charges. He agreed to make safety videos as part of an advocacy agreement.

YouTube said in a tweet that he was a "gifted, passionate and curious creator ad infinitum". Thompson has been making videos since 2010.
