Kane Williamson could not get his hands on the World Cup, but he achieved a rare feat when he became the captain with more races in a single edition of the tournament, beating Mahela Jayawardene of Sri Lanka. The New Zealand captain, Williamson, finished the recently concluded World Cup with 550 races, eclipsing the record of 548 of Jayawardene scored during the 2007 edition.

Williamson and Jayawardene are followed by Ricky Ponting (539 races in 2007), Aaron Finch (507 races in 2019) and AB de Villiers (482 races in 2015). Former captain Sourav Ganguly is sixth on the list with 465 races under his belt during the 2003 edition.

New Zealand lost the chance to lift the World Cup for the second time in a row after losing to hosts England in the Super Over in a dramatic final in the Lord's. The two teams finished tied in regulation 50, as well as in the Super Over, and the title was decided by the count of limits of the tickets in which England was ahead of New Zealand.
