New Delhi - In view of the second wave of Coronavirus, the Central Government has once again announced the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana for poor families. Under this scheme, the central government will give additional 5–5 kg of food grains to the ration card holders free of cost in the months of May and June. This will benefit 80 crore beneficiaries.

This decision has been taken to help them during the rising outbreak of the covid pandemic. Under this, the central government will spend more than Rs 26,000 crore. This announcement has been made when India is breaking all 'records' on the coronavirus. The country recorded more than 3.32 lakh new corona virus cases in a single day on Friday.

The scheme was announced when the lockdown was imposed across the country during the first wave of covid-19 last year. PM Modi said that at a time when the country is going through a difficult phase, the poor got full support. 26 thousand crore rupees will be spent on this scheme by the government. Many states are also demanding an economic package from the central government.

In the meeting with the CM on Friday, this demand was made by many Chief Ministers. In fact, many states have imposed lockdowns to protect covid. However, PM Modi has denied the nationwide lockdown and asked the states to implement it as the ultimate weapon.
