We are in 21 st Century, surrounded by technology, which reduces our level of effort to great extent. But our ancestors never ever would’ve thought that technology will play a vital role in sports too, like Cricket, Football, Tennis, etc.

Especially, Cricket which is one of the most loved game all over the world. When Cricket was earlier introduced, technology was not that integral part of this game. Each and every decision was taken by humans ( i.e. Umpire ) and was sometimes unfair due to accuracy factor.

But with the passing time, ICC acknowledged the value of technology for decision-making process on-field. And then the third umpire was introduced for helping out on-field umpires to make fair decision in case if they fail to judge it on-field.

Later on, In January, 2008, DRS (Decision Review System) was used for the first time in a test match, which invoked a revolution in Cricket and technology. It helped the team to review the final decision made by umpire if the team thought the decision was not fair. And this was said to be the best tool for avoiding unfair decision.

In this way, ICC always spent on research and development to to upgrade technology for the most possible fair game. And they were able to achieve many technician upgrades like Hotspot System, DRS System, LED Stumps, which lits up as soon as the bails dislodge.

SMART BALL CRICKET ?

Now, it’s 2019, we are in the latest and path breaking technological revolution, i.e. , ” Smart Ball Cricket”, which is to be introduced by kookaburra and is eager to use it in an upcoming Big Bash League, 2019. A microchip is embedded inside the ball which will give accurate data like speed, release point, pre-bounce, post bounce, etc.

It will also be helpful for umpires to make a decision in complex catching situations as it will be easy to analyze whether the ball touched the grass or not. This ball will also be able to provide rotations at the same point. And will be helpful for both the participation team and umpires to make a fair decision.
