This is the year we get announcements of all the essential TV shows making a comeback on HBO Max. The streamer is all set to revive Sex and the City, a fan favourite that has endured through the decades as an incomparable moment in pop culture. Over the weekend, the stars of the show Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis shared teasers hinting at a series revival and its official, Sex and the City is returning with a brand new title and one lead cast member short.

Sex and the City could be revived as a film, given that we've happily lapped up two movies in spite of their critical failures or a TV show and the latter is decidedly a better idea. HBO Max has confirmed a 10-episode limited series. The title of the show, as revealed in the teasers is And Just Like That…

So the original cast is back? Well, not quite. The show is all set to follow Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis) and Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon) as they embark on yet another chapter of life in New York City. Samantha Jones, played by Kim Cattrall will not be returning for the series. Parker, Davis and Nixon are also attached to the project as executive producers along with writer-director Michael Patrick King as per reports on Variety.

Created by Darren Star and based on Candace Bushnell's novel of the same name, Sex and the City premiered in 1998. The show had a six-season run till 2004. After the finale, two movies were released in 2008 and 2010. Show revivals, especially for franchises as big as this one can be tricky but Sex and the City is one of those shows that have the potential of growing with time. The original run with its rewatch value leaves a lot wanting in terms of timely upgrades. Besides, romanticising a big noisy city, New York in particular, never seems to lose its separate charm.

The announcement hit like a wave of TV nostalgia but fans are mighty pissed that the Sex and the City revival is happening without Samantha although Cattrall has, in the past, made it abundantly clear that she doesn't want to return to the franchise.
