Rs 845 crore proposed for modernisation of mandis in Uttar Pradesh

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said on Friday that agricultural mandis in the state would be modernised and equipped with all facilities for the convenience of farmers. The CM said that mandis in all 75 districts of the state will be developed on modern lines.

Mandi Parishad chairman JP Singh presented a budget of Rs 3,043 crore for the year 2021-22. It includes a corpus fund of Rs 800 crore and another Rs 845 crore for modernisation and expansion of mandis.

It also has a provision of Rs 50 crore for the upkeep of apprach roads and another Rs 50 crore for construction of godowns and integrated pack houses. The CM said that the quality of roads should not be compromised and the contractors should be blacklisted for poor work.

The CM was informed that the agriculture department seeks to raise funds by allowing installation of mobile towers and advertising hoardings on the mandi campuses. The state government has also allowed common service centres to facilitate marketing of agricultural produce. Yogi was also apprised about the fact that some of the products are being promoted by levying only 1% user charge while being traded from mandi premises.

The government has also decided to appoint IIM-Lucknow as the knowledge partner as part of the plan. Also, a consultant is proposed to be appointed by the state government as part of the long term plan vis-à-vis mandis. The CM also suggested construction of commercial units in the mandis to increase their income.
