Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday sharpened her attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi over rising fatalities due to Covid-19 and complaints of shortage of beds, medicines and medical oxygen in hospitals.

Priyanka Gandhi alleged that the Narendra Modi-led central government appeared indifferent towards people suffering from Covid-19. In an interview, Priyanka Gandhi said when people were crying for help and oxygen, PM Modi and other BJP leaders were "cracking jokes and laughing" in poll rallies.

"Even today they're busy with campaigning. They're laughing from the stage [at rallies]. He [PM Modi] needs to forget the campaign [in West Bengal] and PR; get off from West Bengal rallies where [he] is cracking jokes and open communication with the public for help in the time of coronavirus crisis," Priyanka Gandhi said.

"People are crying, screaming for help, seeking oxygen, beds, medicines, and you're going to huge rallies and laughing. How can you?" Priyanka Gandhi said.

Priyanka Gandhi also said the government needs to talk to the Opposition, medical professionals and the businessmen. "This government can speak to ISI. They're speaking to ISI in Dubai. can't they talk to Opposition leaders? I don't think there's any Opposition leader who's not giving them constructive and positive suggestions," the Congress leader said, adding, "In a democracy, dialogue is the only way in the time of a crisis."
