The construction of the first phase of the hyperloop proposed by Virgin Hyperloop One Mumbai-Pune should now begin by the end of this year, according to Construction Week. Harj Dhaliwal, chief executive officer of Virgin Hyperloop One for the Middle East and India regions, reportedly revealed plans to start construction of phase 1 of the Mumbai-Pune hyperloop route project before the end of 2019. Once the project is completed, the between Mumbai and Pune can reduce from 3 ½ hours to just 25 minutes. The distance between the two cities is about 150 kilometers.

The proposed Hyperloop link between Mumbai and Pune is expected to benefit the combined population of 26 million people in both cities and connect Navi Mumbai International Airport to Pune. The first phase of the proposed Mumbai-Pune hyperloop route covers only 11.8 km of demonstration runway and is expected to be completed by 2023. However, the US transportation technology company will use a private investment of $ 500 million to work on Phase 1.

The schedule for the construction of Phase 1 is expected to remain unchanged as there is practically no margin for the land acquisition process. Once the Phase 1 work is complete, the company will eventually begin work on Phase 2, which will build the rest of the segment, with two separate tracks in Mumbai: Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) and Navi Mumbai to accelerate freight transport. .

The Hyperloop crossing should be parallel to the Mumbai-Pune Highway built just below. Hyperloop is designed as a new mode of transportation that allows passengers and freight to move faster from one source to another. They are loaded into the Hyperloop vehicle that accelerates through electric propulsion in a low pressure tube. It floats above the runway, thanks to magnetic levitation. Thanks to ultra-low aerodynamic drag, the Hyperloop vehicle travels at aircraft speeds.
An estimated 80 to 199 million passengers travel between Mumbai and Pune each year. Virgin Hyperloop One seeks to meet this demand by deploying Hyperloop modules several times per minute. In summary, Phase 1 is just a demonstration phase "to prove to regulators that our system is reliable, safe and its use is certified by the public.
