International magazine TIME dedicates its cover to women leading India’s farmer protests

The TIME magazine has dedicated its international cover to the women who are leading the farmers’ protest at Delhi’s borders and have been camping for months demanding rollback of the three contentious farm laws.

The TIME magazine’s new international cover reads: "I cannot be intimidated. I cannot be bought." The women leading India's farmers' protests.

The cover image shows some of the women farmers from the protests raising slogans while carrying their young children in their arms. The photograph also includes several old women protesters who have remained a constant at the protest sites at Delhi’s borders for months

The TIME magazine article talks about how the women farmers resolved to continue with their agitation when the government had asked the women to go back home. They talk about how “something snapped” in them and they took charge of the agitation to lead the way for thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

The farmer protests in India have garnered massive support from international icons and celebrities such as Rihanna and Greta Thunberg, which led to further controversy. The Centre issued a statement soon after Rihanna and Greta’s tweets and asked celebrities to refrain from making sensational remarks on India’s internal matters.
